The King Of Jazz, Louis Armstrong, Shall See A Much Deserved Documentary Greenlit Via Apple's Imagine Documentaries!

"Apple Original Films has ordered Black & Blues: The Colorful Ballad of Louis Armstrong, a documentary about the life and pioneering career of jazz legend Louis Armstrong, from Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries.

The biopic, to be directed by Sacha Jenkins, will tell Armstrong’s story through the musical great's own words. Black & Blues: The Colorful Ballad of Louis Armstrong is headed to Apple TV+ via Apple’s first-look agreement with Imagine Documentaries.

The multiyear pact will see Imagine produce a slate of scripted features exclusively for Apple TV+. Backed by the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, the filmmakers have gained access to new archival materials, including hundreds of hours of audio recordings, film footage, photographs and personal diaries.

The producer credits are shared by Jenkins, Julie Anderson, Sara Bernstein and Justin Wilkes. Grazer and Howard will executive produce the project, which is in the works in association with Universal Music Group’s Polygram Entertainment, with Michele Anthony and David Blackman also executive producing.

Black & Blues: The Colorful Ballad of Louis Armstrong follows the Imagine documentary Dads for Apple Original Films, from director Bryce Dallas Howard; the Emmy-winning Peanuts in Space: Secrets of Apollo 10, directed by Morgan Neville; and upcoming docuseries The Supermodels.

Apple is also set to debut the Peanuts 70th anniversary Who Are You Charlie Brown? documentary from Imagine Documentaries and WildBrain.

Apple's recent and upcoming releases include the Billie Eilish doc from R.J. Cutler and the Russo brothers' Cherry." - Hollywood reporter.com
