What The World Needs Now Is Love: Amy Schumer Says Husband, Chris Fischer’s Autism Is ‘Like Having A Superpower.’

"Amy Schumer has rocketed to being among the highly ranked female comedians since breaking into the profession in the early 2000s. The 40-year-old has long dabbled in acting, garnering popular parts in rom-coms like “I Feel Pretty,” “Snatched,” and “Trainwreck.”

The latter won Schumer several award nods, which added to her critically praised comedic career. The actress also became an autism advocate after discovering that her husband, chef, and farmer Chris Fischer, was on the autistic spectrum.

While such a disease may be a burden to many, Schumer has stated that she loves Chris Fischer just as he is and considers his autism to be a superpower.

In her appearance in a recent episode of Ellen DeGeneres’ eponymous show, Schumer gushed about her husband, declaring him the best partner ever. She went on to say that his autism status, which got diagnosed as “high functioning autism spectrum disorder,” was like “having a superpower.”

“All of his behavior is kind of excused now,” she joked, alluding that Fischer gets away with acting oddly in social gatherings. “If someone’s telling a long, boring story, he will straight up just walk away. He’ll just wander away, and I’m just still stuck there.”

Amy Schumer Says Her Husband Chris Fischer, Has Superpowers
In her appearance in a recent episode of Ellen DeGeneres’ eponymous show, Schumer gushed about her husband, declaring him the best partner ever. She went on to say that his autism status, which got diagnosed as “high functioning autism spectrum disorder,” was like “having a superpower.”

“All of his behavior is kind of excused now,” she joked, alluding that Fischer gets away with acting oddly in social gatherings. “If someone’s telling a long, boring story, he will straight up just walk away. He’ll just wander away, and I’m just still stuck there.”

On the show, Schumer previously argued that people misunderstood what autism is and hence could not properly relate to those on the spectrum. She suggested that the public learn more about it and get tested so that those who have the disorder do not waste their life wondering why they are the odd one out.

The comedian also stated that persons on the autism spectrum are her favorite people saying they only differ from normal humans in their brain chemistry.

Fischer had no idea he was autistic when he married Amy in February 2018. He did, however, get an official diagnosis after an online evaluation. Amy mentioned that the diagnosis compelled them to research more about a disease that affects a number of individuals in the United States.

After nearly four years of marriage to Fischer, the comedian admitted that having sex is difficult “because they’re your family” and that she can’t talk filthy anymore because “he knows me too well.”
Schumer opted to emulate DeGeneres’ unisex style and characteristic blonde cropped hairstyle for her appearance on the show, with the two even trading roles at one point, which saw the comic taking on the role of interviewer for a moment.

Schumer’s visit on DeGeneres’ show was not the first time she mentioned her husband’s autism. While appearing on an episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in 2019, the comic shed some light on the disorder.
She stated that many individuals avoided obtaining an autistic test because they did not want to be ostracized if it got discovered that they were on the spectrum. However, at the time, the mother of one noted that obtaining treatment is critical because individuals who get diagnosed will have access to resources that will help them live their lives better.

Staying in her relationship with Fischer was not a pity case for Schumer; instead, the comedian says she genuinely loves him and would never trade him in for anybody.

The couple share one kid, Gene, born in October 2018. Her son, who will be three years old next month, was born through cesarean section due to Schumer’s endometriosis, which subsequently led to the removal of her womb to alleviate the symptoms of the disease." - Theblast.com
