Everybody professes to love her but they knew nothing about her. Those are thee opening words to this explosively-entrancing, dynamic new Billie Holiday documentary trailer!

A beautiful soul, she could only express by singing. Without even trying she was the great lady of all time. Those talking about thee extraordinary Holiday on the recordings are the likes of Tony Bennett,  jazz legend Count Basie, and much more. There is also accounts featuring high school mates, attorneys, pimps, and U.S. agents who framed her for drug possession. Which at thee end inevitably killed her.

"She was an extremist which made her the way she is. Everybody wanted something out of her." These are again recorded accounts captured on tape. Also saying, "No vocalist ever went through what she went through. She put everything on stage. She just told her own story by being herself. All she wanted to do was sing."

There are yummy archives complete with stills colorized in HD.  The docu interestingly enough includes some interviews originally taken in the 1960s by journalist Linda Lipnack Kuehl for an incomplete biography that never aired.

Director James Erskine released thee following in a public statement: “We had the images and footage, of course, and we pulled together her surviving audio interviews, but what was essential to me was to make sure there was enough room in the film to sit back and admire her power, her genius, and also to ensure the audience grasped that Billie’s story was told through the songs she sang. Taking the narrative of Billie, blending it with a coherent music structure and then tracing out her life and her changing image was the essence of the film.”
