Marina and the Diamonds on the Struggle to Record New Album: 'I Thought I Wasn't Going to Do This Anymore'

According to one of our preffered musical Diety's, Marina and the Diamonds..."Sat down for a rare interview at Abbey Road Studios, her first in three years following 2015's FROOT. The singer revealed that after a long hiatus from music, an album is finally on the way.

In the interview, the half-Greek, half-Welsh singer born Marina Diamandis speaks fondly of the legendary studio space of Beatles fame -- a "real treat" to be recording at -- and reveals she's been listening to everything from Lykke Li's So Sad So Sexy to Kanye West's Ye.

Since taking a break from music, the indie-pop songstress has "been writing more than I ever have before, which was unexpected," because she "thought that I was just like not gonna do this anymore for a while." Diamandis goes on to say that she's "really excited to put something out." Looking back on her career and three albums, including Electra Heart and The Family Jewels, Diamandis notes her favorite show was in Athens in 2016, a "literally insane" moment when she played for her "hometown" (she moved to Greece at age 16).

Diamandis is also working alongside other artists to record a single for the U.K.'s National Health Service, The Beatles' "With a Little Help From My Friends," at Abbey Road. In a tweet, she wrote, "Please help support its staff + patients by pre-ordering the record. It’s a privilege to have access to free health care." The all-star Beatles cover (also featuring Seal and Nile Rodgers) can be preordered here. Another tweet confirmed the coming album with a sweet handwritten note to fans, saying, "I know it's been a while but I promise this next record will be worth the wait!"
