Unknown Mortal Orchestra Presented By Kimbra On Her Episode Of "What's In My Bag".

Following on the heels from the post right above this article (just scroll up a few bumps) we mentioned how singer Kimbra turned us on to a new artist on her latest taping of the webisode series, Amoeba's "What's In My Bag." We also mentioned we'd spill the tea in a post following right after revelaing who the band is. As always keeping true to our word, whoop here it is!

The band is Unknown Mortal Orchestra and they hail from New Zealand. They're a yummy sunny psychedelic rock band primarily comprising singer, guitarist, and songwriter Ruban Nielson, and bassist Jake Portrait. The snazzy jazzy tune is entitled "Can't Keep Checking My Phone." You'll find handclaps and the sonics of wooden instruments. The whisps of far-out horns, classical guitar, and several instruments run through effects. It's a catchy and entirely danceable disco hit. Which is right up our alley!

The lyrics keep things plenty topsy-turvy talking about eating crickets in the future and how the universe might be a hologram. It's tough to make heads or tails of it all carebears, which is intentional because apparently singer Ruban Nielson prides himself on filling the record with "abstract riddles". But while much of the song's poetry revolves just beyond the realm of reality, the banger of it all is simply an all-around badass song!

Like the tunes lyrical content goes, "I can't keep checkin' my phone," singer Nielson exclaims. "You're pulling a brick out of your pocket just to make sure the ringer is on. You're refreshing the Mail app to see what you've missed. You're opening any and every app that offers a possible avenue of communication to see if you're being hit up. Get back to me, already; I can't keep staring at this thing."

At the heart of this psychedelic, dance tune is an anxious plea to be back with the one you truly love. Take it with a grain a salt or rather do how we do and strap your boogie boots on and get dancey by spinning play right below!
