Grace Coddington’s Draws Cats in Punk Clothing for Vogue

When you think about it the feline species are very "Punk" and who else but fashion mag creative director Grace Coddington to sketch out The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute ball's looks on the kitty cat!

Even with a costume theme as provocative as the one “Punk: Chaos to Couture” presented last week, many of the 2013 Met Gala’s guests were powerless to resist the siren call of the glamorous, elegant evening dress. True, the night saw its share of original punks (Debbie Harry, Marky Ramone, Vivienne Westwood with her agitprop Bradley Manning badge), model punks, and plenty of spiky, studded, and safety-pin adornments de rigueur. And yet. . . “I’d like to see some real punks in here, like street punks,” remarked Creative Director Grace Coddington upon reaching the red carpet and encountering a dearth of, for instance, trash-bag dresses ascending the steps to the museum. “They probably weren't invited.” Once inside the Temple of Dendur, images of snarling pit bulls were projected onscreen prior to Kanye West’s set, and it quickly became clear that something else was missing from the festivities too. So Coddington sketched her own favorite pieces that didn’t make an appearance at the ball—and, naturally, she drew them on a small litter of cats. From DIY dresses to beauty tips (this is the occasion to cultivate that feral look, kittens!), here are her head-to-tail looks fit for rebel felines everywhere.
