Pop star Boy George narrowly escaped serious injury when a massive glitter ball crashed down on him during rehearsals.

It would have been both ironic and glamorous to be finished off by a four-foot glitter ball

The Culture Club singer was knocked over when the 62lb mirror ball fell from the ceiling above the stage at the Bournemouth International Centre in Dorset.

The pop icon and his band were rehearsing for a concert when the accident happened.

George, 38, suffered severe bruising when the ball clipped his face and landed on his left shoulder after the wire holding it in place snapped.

The ball, one of three used by the group for the stage set during the current UK tour, shattered into hundreds of pieces in the incident earlier this week.

Witnesses said it missed landing directly on singer's head by just two inches.

George told The Sun newspaper: "I have survived and I'm still here, although my back is aching like anything. It caught my ear, which is really sore as well."

George insisted on going ahead with the concert a few hours later. -news.bbc.co.uk

But what a way to have gone out, right!
