Pearls On The Ocean Floor by Robert Adanto

Pearls on the Ocean Floor examines the lives and works of Iranian female artists living and working in and outside the Islamic Republic. The film features Shadi Ghadirian, Shirin Neshat, Parastou Forouhar, Haleh Anvari, Sara Rahbar, Leila Pazooki, Afshan Ketabchi, Malekeh Nayiny, Gohar Dashti, Pooneh Maghazehe, and Taravat Talepasand.

We had the privilege of meeting director Robert Adanto at the Charlie James Gallery in Chinatown who approached us with his project and also later invited us to a screening of film at the Downtown Independent theater. We are happy to present to you our readers excerpts from the film which tells the struggles many women face in unjust societies and how they use their own art to create a movement to break-way from their controlling countries and to tell their stories in this beautifully created independent film.
