MTV VMA's Highlights Top's!

Last night in Downtown Los Angeles the Moon Man landed on top of the Nokia Theater for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards hosted by comedian, talk show host, and most importantly our Mother Matron, Chelsea Handler!

Although this years awards show was not as star studded as the 2009 award show (Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Pink...) the live telecast still surprisingly surpassed our expectations here at itsnotyouitsme.org.

The 2 hour show opened with now rap legend Eminem and his single “Love The Way You Lie” which was accompanied by the featured Rihanna. Rihanna originally was not set to perform at the award show due to her movie filming commitments for the Universal film 'Battleship' but looks like the surprise was on us as she walked on stage to Join Eminem on the #1 chart topping single.

Other highlights included Taylor Swift's debut performance of “Innocent” the forgiving tune in response to last years Kanye West debacle. Highly praised Drake makes his debut VMA performance with the help of Mary J Blije and producer and Alicia Keys baby daddy Swizz Beats. Ushers return to the VMA stage after his almost career kill after failed albums, tours, and movies. Usher returns Triumphant.

But most notible of the night was the live performance of Florence + The Machine “Dog Days Are Over”. The live vocal performance was with no doubt the "Bad Romance" performance of this year. Florence Welch the voice behind the collaborative effort of artist of Florence + The Machine floated like a greek goddess across the stage of performers and the undeniable vocals awakened the mostly unknowing audience.

Critics may have frowned at the program and host Chelsea Handler, but Sunday's VMA Awards telecast on MTV still drew the show's best ratings in eight years.

Chelsea Handler tweeted today in response:

and Miss Handler in response to some negative criticism from a delusional blogger:

An average of 11.4 million viewers tuned in to the two-hour telecast, a 27% increase over last year, according to the Nielsen Co. It was the ceremony's most-watched telecast since 2002.

Over all it was a well planed show and although surprises were minimal the talent made up for any dead spots.
