Love Designer Cathy Pill

Via Alice over @ fashionista

PARIS–Cathy Pill is the kind of woman who makes girls green with envy. She's Drop dead gorgeous (to the point of being mistaken for a model during her private views), she can also sew admirably, and walk in Eiffel-Tower-high heels. And to make matters worse, she is absolutely lovely.

The designer, an Antwerp export, gives the once over to Parisian women, as she mixes classical, Cacharel-like chic with daring detailing, bold colors and urban prints. She’s already designed pieces for Beth Ditto. This fall, her clothes will be sold at Browns in London, and Colette in Paris.

Today, Cathy confides in Fashionista about her upcoming collection, her teenage years and Sex and the City.

You mix a classical femininity and prints with graffiti, why?
I get inspired by my surroundings, by urban energy, by striking women, and my feelings at that point in time. All this is reflected in the colors and the lines. I enjoy capturing reality and transcribing it onto clothes.

Who is the Cathy Pill woman?
She is the urban woman, a curious, active, positive, forward-thinking one, a woman who dares to mix styles, who loves fashion and enjoys playing with it.

Can you tell us more about the collection that will soon be in shops?
The AW2010 collection is about the woman of today, walking in the street, captivating the energy around her. The collection reflects colorful rhythms mixing cashmere with street art, neoprene with gouache painted flowers, silk voiles with abstract marbleized aquarelle. Energy, sensuality, femininity and reality are the key words of the collections.

And can you reveal anything about the next collection?
It will be a fresh-colored strong collection. The prints are about spontaneous paintings, from impressionists and African art. Lots of vibrant colours, including plains; Lots of cold mint, warm orange pink Coral, yellow, silver, ecru beige and grey. Fabrics are silks, crêpe de chine, cottons, handwashed marbled cotonsilks, silk-cashmere knits, cotton knits, light jerseys….

When did you realize you when interested in fashion and what drew you to that world?
I’ve been playing with fashion ever since I’m a teenager. Clothes are the first creative tool of communication. Every morning, you wonder “what am I going to wear today in order to have the best possible day?”

I’ve worn every style imaginable, and felt there was something missing, until I decided to invest in a sewing machine, and to alter clothes my way, and to add color and print.

What did you wear when you were fifteen?
That depended on what I made, I’ll leave this up to your imagination!

And if Cathy Pill was a film, an animal, a pair of shoes?
Alice in Wonderland meets Sex and the City, a migrating bird, a pair of Chloe shoes.

And if you had one superpower, which one would you choose?
To turn into a bird and to be free to travel as I wish.
