Breaking Bread: With The Incomparable The Asteroids Galaxy Tour

'Heart Attack' is the title of the first single from indie rock pop/psychedelic-funk band, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour. True to lyrical form, the opening tune along with the rest of the album have got all the right hip shake that allows us listeners to escape to another planet. It's been almost 4 years since we last heard from The Asteroids Galaxy Tour after releasing their debut album "Fruit" back in 2008 which spawned the hit single "Around The Bend."

Now, it truly seems like the US has been visited by space invaders with a massive horn section joined along with a groovy band accompanied by silky smooth vocal stylings from female front leader Mette Lindberg. This album kiddas is so infectious that I've officially elected "Out of Frequency" the first best new album of 2012!

I've not only attached the music video for the current single "Heart Attack" but I've compiled a favorites track-list from the new record. As always, indulge and be happy. Dig it out below!

On making it big... “I’m still not like a big spender … I Love buying other people stuff, because when I buy myself something I feel like, I don’t really need this. You know, ‘Why am I getting it?’ I just bought my best friends Range Rovers. They’re really excited about that.”

Iris Apfel Is Only Gettin Started!

According to fashionista...

"Everyone’s favorite fashionable nonagenarian just added yet another category to her growing fashion empire: handbags. The line will sell in department stores and, like its designer, it sounds…eccentric, to say the least.

First of all, it’s called ‘Extinctions.’ Why? Apfel’s business partner, Lisa Nunziata told WWD, “When I met Iris, I told her I’m the last of a dying breed, and she shot back, ‘If you’re the end of a dying breed, then I must be extinct.’” And voila.

Also, the bags are made of exotic materials like Mongolian lamb, calf hair and snakeskin, though they’re priced pretty reasonably at $228-$398. They chose the shape of a dodo bird for the hang tags. “It’s an odd bird, like me,” Apfel told the trade. And judging by these photos, the bags will fit in with Apfel’s more-is-more aesthetic. Don’t expect any tiny clutches from the collection, either. “Plus I like big bags,” she told WWD. “My eyeglasses are so big they don’t fit into smaller bags.”

Extinctions is one of several projects she’s embarked on over the past couple of years, which includes an eyewear collection with Eyebobs, a jewelry line with HSN and a M.A.C. makeup collection. “I have a lot of creative juices — I like to use them up or it chokes me,” she said.

They’re also providing material for Apfel’s Albert Maysles documentary, which WWD says is in its early stages of filming (we are so excited for this). Click through for another image."

Raf Simons Covers i-D, Talks His Final Collection for Jil Sander takes a updated look at new Dior creative designer Raf Simons in his latest front cover interview for i-D magazine.

i-D‘s Lights, Camera, Action issue is hitting newsstands May 10, and who better to grace one of its eight covers than fashion’s man of the moment, Raf Simons?

The designer has certainly had his share of ups and downs as of late. After allegedly being “unceremoniously dumped” from Jil Sander to make way for the return of its founder, Simons bid a tearful farewell at his final runway show for the label in Milan. Weeks later, Simons was named creative director at Dior, ending a year of speculation over who would finally succeed John Galliano.

Now, he’s peeking from behind a patch of grayed out blooms on the cover of i-D, with the fitting caption “It’s Show Time.” Indeed. He’s also speaking up about his final (gorgeous) collection for Jil Sander. He describes it as “…very wholesome, very romantic. Kind of like when you’re outside, walking in nature. Beauty isn’t always obvious; you have to search for it. That’s what I find most romantic.”

Romantic, huh? How very Dior. Simons also discusses his personal perspective on fashion and why he chose to throw himself into the industry. “Fashion is not there to educate you, but to challenge you. Sometimes I speak with young kids and I have the feeling… not that they have no interest, but that they look at it in a different way. This is the reason I chose to do fashion, to create a dialogue and bring people together.”

Sounds like a good read! If you can’t wait until May 10 to get your hands on a copy, you can order the issue online starting May 7 at
