Breaking Bread: Meet Goapele

After 2 previous attempts to break into the American music market American soul and R&B singer-songwriter Goapele (pronounced gwa-puh-LAY) has release her latest venture "Break Of Dawn".

Her website best describes her latest sound

She will undoubtedly surprise many who think they know what to expect from a Goapele release. This time around she’s crowning the soulful heartbreak and rumbling soliloquies of her previous albums with epic synths, old school feel good and a bolder voice.

Break of Dawn doesn’t linger on R&B’s lackluster clichés, it hypes you up, kicks you in the stomach, drives you to tears, and then reels you back in on a sunny Sunday morning. This album is poised to take her to an even higher level. The difference is that Break of Dawn is stepping out a bit. It’s less guarded, it’s sexy and it’s stadium-worthy.

Her single "Play" is seductive and forward thinking and we are pleased to present her work as our latest Breaking Bread Artist.
After a six-year hiatus on a journey through motherhood and life outside of music, Goapele has returned with the sensual single, "Play". The song features production from Oakland based duo, Teddy Thunderbolt & Dan Electric, and was written by Goapele herself. Currently available through Skyblaze Recordings/Decon via iTunes and Amazon, the single incorporates elements of funky, down-tempo electronic vibes layered with Goapele's smooth and seductive vocals. The video, which was directed by John Mazyck and Dahveed of Detail Shoppe, was shot in a graphic black and white. It showcases Goapele in a glamorous, high fashion themed setting that gives both an evocative and sensual visual to the pillow talk vibe of the song.
