Grab Your Piggy Accounts & Black Amex! Janet Jackson’s Costumes, Iconic Key Earring Up For Grabs At Julien’s Auctions!

"In celebration of Janet Jackson’s upcoming birthday, Julien’s Auctions will be partnering with the singer to auction off 1,000 of her most iconic career pieces. The auction, set to be held in Los Angeles from May 14 through May 16, will include.

“Janet has never done an auction before. In fact, we find it very hard to find items at auction, any auction, from Janet Jackson because she’s kept everything,” said Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions. “It’s cathartic for her… she’s happy to let them go and to raise money for a charity that’s really important to her.”

Portions of the auction’s proceeds will benefit Compassion International, an organization that works to provide aid to children in poverty with the help of churches across the world.

The most notable of the collection includes Jackson’s 1989 Rhythm Nation Tour jacket and the key earring she has been photographed wearing long throughout her career. There are also a number of costumes and gowns from red carpet and award show appearances, as well as music videos and public appearances.

Speaking on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the singer explained the origin of the key earring, saying: “I never kept a keychain and I took care of the animals. We had so many animals growing up. We had fawns, mouflon sheep, peacocks, giraffes, just all kinds of animals. So, it was my job to feed them, to clean the cages. That was my chore. It was a working key. So all through school, I wore hoop earrings and I would keep the key on my earring.”

The auction will also feature staples from Jackson’s music videos, including the visuals for “If” and “Together Again.” There is also the exciting inclusion of costumes from the music video for “Scream,” the 1995 single Jackson recorded with her brother Michael Jackson.

More recently the singer celebrated the 35th anniversary of her seminal album Control last week. Originally released on February 4, 1986, it topped the US R&B chart, where it spent a jaw-dropping 91 weeks. Control eventually hit the top of the US pop albums chart and the Billboard 200, and transformed Janet Jackson into a megastar whose fame would rival her brother’s." - udiscovermusic.com/news/janet-jackson-auction/
