Legendary Producers Jimmy Jam And Terry Lewis Sign W/BMG For Long Awaited Debut Album As Artists Promising "Iconic collaborations"

Thee Legendary Producers Jimmy Jam And Terry Lewis Sign W/BMG For Long Awaited Debut Album As Artists Promising "Iconic Collaborations Spanning Their Influential Discography."

"Production legends Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are readying their first-ever artist album through a new deal with BMG.

The five-time Grammy Award-winning pair have crafted a deep catalog that includes more than 100 gold, platinum, multi-platinum and diamond albums through their collaborations with acts such as Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Usher, Gwen Stefani, George Michael, Mariah Carey and many more.

But until now, they've never put their names to a full-length Jam & Lewis LP.

In announcing their next project, Jam said: "BMG immediately got our vision and understood where we wanted to go with this album. There was real mutual respect. We’ve found the perfect partner to kick off this next era and finally deliver our first record to the world."

The forthcoming record will feature "iconic collaborations spanning their influential discography," reads a statement issued today (Oct. 19) by BMG, with further details to be announced in due course.

"It’s crazy to think we’re about to release our debut album after all these years," adds Lewis. "This is going to be a very special moment and we are grateful to have this team behind us."

James "Jimmy Jam" Harris III and Terry Lewis are former members of the Time and considered architects of the "Minneapolis Sound," popularized by Prince in the late '70s and early '80s. Across a decades-long career, they've landed 16 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s and earned 23 Grammy nominations.

Outside of the R&B, pop and soul works they’ve shaped, the Minnesota pair have composed music for TBS network’s basketball broadcasts and composed and produced "Welcome To The World," the theme of the opening ceremonies of the 1996 summer Olympic Games.

Branching into feature films, Jam & Lewis contributed to soundtracks for Stella Got Her Groove Back, and The Prince Of Egypt, and an Academy Award nomination came for their work on "Again" by Janet Jackson, which appeared as the closing song to the 1993 movie Poetic Justice.

The as-yet-untitled album "is an extraordinary celebration of Jimmy and Terry's musical brilliance, influence, and legacy they’ve created over the course of their musical career," comments John Loeffler, BMG's executive vp, repertoire & marketing, New York. "Each song is remarkable with awe-inspiring performances to create a career defining master work."

Expect the record to drop next year. The BMG media release wraps up with the teaser, "Get ready for them to make history again in 2021."" - Billboard.com
