"'Schitt's Creek' funny tune 'A Little Bit Alexis' continues it's Billboard climb! It's a Little Bit of a surprise juggernaut streaming smash now!

"A spoof song written and recorded for the TV series Schitt’s Creek has become a surprise streaming hit. “A Little Bit Alexis,” released in February 2019, recently surpassed 1 million on-demand streams in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Further, two out of its top five streaming weeks have come in the last month. (Listen to the track below.)

The tune is performed by the actress Annie Murphy in character as the fish-out-of-water socialite Alexis Rose. The song is introduced on the Feb. 26, 2019, episode of Schitt’s Creek by Rose as “the title track off of my critically reviewed, limited reality series A Little Bit Alexis.” Murphy told Billboard last year the song (which Murphy co-wrote with Menno Versteeg and Nixon Boyd) took inspiration from Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

“We wanted it to be spoofy, but we also very selfishly wanted to write a banger -- an early-2000s banger that people would actually like,” Murphy said.

While a million total streams is nothing compared to most current hit singles, which can generate millions of streams in a single week, it's still a notable achievement for a jokey song from a TV show.

On Jan. 29, 2020, the song got some major exposure, courtesy of Kelly Clarkson. Murphy appeared as a guest on Clarkson’s talk show The Kelly Clarkson Show, and the two performed a version of the song, including a new verse by Clarkson. In the week ending Jan. 30, the song garnered 35,000 on-demand streams in the U.S. -- up 32% compared to the previous week (27,000). The Clarkson impact continued into the week ending Feb. 6, where the song tallied its second-biggest streaming week yet: 43,000 streams. (The song’s biggest streaming week remains the frame ending March 7, 2019, shortly after the song’s premiere on Schitt’s Creek, and its proper streaming release on Feb. 27, 2019.)

“A Little Bit Alexis” hit the million-stream milestone in the week ending Feb. 6, 2020. So far, the song’s streaming fortunes have been driven solely by its official audio, which is available widely on streaming platforms. However, the song does not have a music video (yet).

In a behind-the-scenes clip filmed for Schitt’s Creek, Murphy joked, “I wanna do a video, I want it to be big budget. Like, I’m talking tigers, men, horses, bears.”" - Billboard.com
