Q&A: Elliott Reeder

"Taking it back to the very beginning – how did it all start out for you?

Things started really well for me. I got my first ever casting I ever went to which was Adidas, and then I realized I needed to lose size to carry on doing more work.

Three words that describe your best self are…

Polite, mischievous, and energetic.

How were you discovered/scouted? And what were your first feelings when you happened to sign your first contract?

It all started via an Instagram post which gained a lot of attention, and my friend who was already with another agency showed it to them. Following that, they invited me in. I felt very overwhelmed and surprised!

Who’s been the best client to work with?

It has to be Ralph Lauren, which is indeed an incredibly huge and successful brand and one I’ve worn all my life.

Favorite modeling experience so far?

I really enjoyed walking for Philip Plein in Milan: I loved the adrenaline, it’s fantastic.

But then has to be my first shoot for Ralph Lauren in Miami was a pretty major deal too. Had the best days!

How’s it been for you since commencing?

It’s been great being able to work with gran photographers, stylists, and global brands. However, I feel like I’m still in that period of professional growth, as I just want to keep plugging away.

Essentials to bring along your travels for a last-minute job are…

Skincare products are my must! I have to say my skincare routine is almost perfect. So, among what I’d carry along with me on a travel journey, I’d definitely grab Elizabeth Arden’s serum capsules.

As a greatly esteemed model across social media, what are your thoughts in regard to the whole Instagram thing?

It’s tough for me, because I’ve only happened to know the industry through social media, so I don’t really know what it was like before. Nonetheless, it’s helped me massively! I know for a fact I’ve been scouted for a few big jobs via Instagram.

Do you feel empowered through your social media channels?

I enjoy it as a kind of portfolio of my day-to-day life, to post-work with the aim of getting more work. Not only that but to show my friends and family what I’m doing. I feel like you have a platform whereby you can influence other people, so it’s about using that as positively as you can!

What’s the wisest lesson you’ve learnt being in the industry?

Be nice to everyone who’s involved in a job, whatever it could be. I will often get rebooked for jobs because I’m a good person to be around and I work hard, not just because my pictures are amazing *laughs*!

Any advice to give the young wave of aspiring models, wanting to venture into such field?

Never take anything to heart. It’s a tough deal, fashion. You fall to rise and grow.
