ItsNotYouItsMe Covers Giorgio's!

In support of Orlove Entertainment and L'Affaire Musicale, ItsNotYouItsMe.org had the privilege of covering the the 2019 installment of Bryan Rabin and Adam Bravin Present : Giorgio's at the Globe Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles on April 27th!

After attending last years massive inaugural event, which celebrated the birthday of Disco pioneer and club namesake, Giorgio Moroder, we could not miss out on what was to be another amazing musique meets art spectacle!

Now this installment of Giorgio's brought to stage new and old nightlife legends as French disco drummer, composer & record producer CERRONE graced us with a rare West Coast live DJ set from the theaters side balcony box overlooking the dance-floor.

In a flood of impressive laser lights Cerrone's disco-percussion sounds moved the dance-floor until a fever climax was reached when his signature track the 8 million selling "Supernature"consumed the theatre, Cerrone now 66 danced along his biggest hit til the stage curtain opened and American synth-pop duo, Holy Ghost! perfectly flowed into the set seamlessly. The full band performed new and old tracks, such as their 2011 standout tune "Do It Again" and "Say My Name" until the front house sound inexplicably could not 'do it again' causing the band to derail at mid-set with the audience missing performances of tracks like "Dumb Disco Ideas" or the 2019 nu disco-laden single "Escape From Los Angeles" from the upcoming album 'Work', due out in June on West End Records.

We were left wanting a bit more from Holy Ghost! but could not complain as the band performed tightly with the 6 song's they had gotten to and as vocalist Alex Frankel apologized for the mis-hap but remarked that they would be back very soon. As the curtain closed and DJ Adam 12 of She Wants Revenge fame jumped balcony side for a quick reset, and for us, a Go-go Juice refill was needed as Dita Von Teese was next on the former vaudeville theatre stage - fittingly.

Back on the dance-floor the drinks flowed and the music was perfectly tuned as classics like Machine's 1979 anthem "There Before the Grace of God, Go I" pulsated, a mega mix of Mighty Ryeders - "Evil Vibrations" vs. Chicago's - "Saturday in the Park" vs De La Soul - "A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays" kept the energy warm and fun until suddenly the venue went dark and sparkles of light emerged from a opening in the stage curtains as Dita Von Teese was about to flip the record and shut it down.

The Burlesque Queen who we only had the privilege seeing in person at one of her vintage expo sales booths was a totally different creature on stage as she sauntered, gleamed and eluded stage presence and sexuality which is no longer seen in this particular fashion, unless you were here at the Globe. Flanked by two harnessed handsome hunks as the dame opened to her track "Bird of Prey" (Bullion Remix) and began a sensual disrobement as her well dressed fans clamored for a better look at the modern day pin-up until she finally saddled up on a giant mechanical MAC Lipstick shaft and disappeared amongst of shower of sparkles, silver streamers and flashes. Dita Von Teese is a Queen.

As the curtain closed we caught our breath only for thee music to gear back up with the uplifting  Disco classic "Boogie Wonderland" by Earth, Wind & Fire and as an extra cherry on the night, drag legend Lady Bunny exploded out onto the stage to give us one final climax dancing, spinning around in her bigger than life platinum 60's hair bump, glamorous caped gown, dodging giant white balloons like she's played with her few pairs in her time.

As we counted down the final minutes of Giorgio's and continued on down the dance-floor to Donna Summer's "Heaven Knows" looking around in our liquored haze we observed the faces around us, the young who we're born too late but danced in the nostalgia as if it were 1979 and of the older attendees who were ear to ear, smiling like the era never faded. For the night, it was a Giorgio's Disco Wonderland for all at the Globe Theatre!
