Every once in a rare great while a new musical artist and/or TV show comes along that fulfills its own particular niche, it's unfortunate but true that it is always with every promise, the often harassed, because of its new medium form. Some people fear what they do not understand...
"Despite how they appeared on the outside, Sonny Bono and Cher didn’t always have it easy. As they were rising to fame as iconic duo Sonny and Cher in the 1960s, the then-couple wasn’t well received by everyone. “Kids liked it, but adults just hated us,” Cher told Elle magazine. “I mean, really hated us. Fistfights hate.”
They didn’t take the hatred too personally, as they soon released “I Got You Babe” in 1965 and skyrocketed to a new level of fame. “It sounds so dumb, but everything happened so fast,” Cher recalled. “I didn’t even know where I was. One day we were poor. Two days, three days later, we were famous.”
As quickly as they rose, however, they fell. “We broke big barriers, but we didn’t do drugs,” Cher explained of the psychedelic movement of the late ’60s, “and we didn’t change our sound. That was really wrong.” While it may have been “wrong,” they did find the “right” move with “The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour,” which premiered on CBS in 1971.
