Video Premiere Rihanna - Diamonds

Rihanna "Diamonds" directed by Anthony Mandler.

Synopsis The music video opens with a view of Rihanna lying in open waters, in addition to different views of diamonds being rolled in a manner suggestive of making a joint, just like the image of the "Diamonds" single artwork. Rihanna is shown running hysterically on a highway, as if being chased. In a black-and-white scene, Rihanna licks the joint and beings smoking the diamonds. The image fades to black and the song begins. Rihanna sings in the same black-and-white setting while being topless. Her hair is long and her head is shaved on one side, reminiscent of her Rated R look. In the water, her hand is shown intertwined with that of a man, whose face is not shown in the video. Quick images of a hotel room where Rihanna lies singing are shown, with objects breaking, curtains falling and roses burning. Next, Rihanna is shown again on the highway, where she is fascinated by a certain, unknown view in the sky. She stops running and begins singing while looking around. The sky is shown glittering and shining as Rihanna revolves around starring at it, stunned and singing. Throughout the video, the intertwined hands of Rihanna and her lover are shown slipping one from another slowly, and they are separated as the first chorus ends.

By the start of the second verse, Rihanna is shown outdoors on a mountain where horses run freely. Rihanna continues to sing passionately and the images previously shown in the video continue to pop up quickly, creating a dark flow of thoughts and concepts for the video. Near the end, Rihanna is once again shown alone in the open waters, presumably depressed after the departure of the lover whose hand is shown holding Rihanna's during the video. Scenes of a battle are shown, Rihanna's face is dirty and stained. She looks across the battlefield, where cars burn and people fight, to see a burning man walking. The video closes with the same scene from the ocean it opened with.
