Uh Oh! Vogue Hommes Japan Folds

Sad to hear the mens high fashion mag will be no more according to the crew at Fashionista.com

Sayōnara, Vogue Hommes Japan… and apparently, every other Conde Nast Men’s Vogue publication.

In a message tweeted this afternoon, VHJ fashion director Nicola Formichetti wrote that the publishing giant would be ceasing production of the international editions of Vogue Hommes in favor of GQ Style–and that Vogue Hommes Japan‘s Autumn/Winter issue would be its last.

“I loved the issues we made together,” said Formichetti. “Each issue was a chance to collaborate with the best creatives in the world. Our goal was to push the boundaries of fashion and oh boy did we take it there!!” But this doesn’t seem to be the end of Formichetti in the publishing world. While we aren’t expecting him to join up with Team GQ any time soon, the Mugler creative director hinted at a future “venture in publishing” with stylist/editor Shun Watanabe and (now former) Vogue Hommes Japan editor Junsuke Yamasaki–adding, “In this digital world, I still love making magazines.”

We’ve reached out to Conde Nast for comment and will update when we hear back.

Will you miss Vogue Homme, ie the closest Kim Kardashian may ever get to being in regular Vogue?

Update: Conde Nast has released a statement regarding its decision to switch Vogue Hommes Japan to GQ Style–a decision apparently only affecting Japanese publications:

“We believe “GQ Style” to be a magazine based solidly on the leading opinions in the realm of stylish authentic fashion paired with the latest trends that stir its readers’ sensibilities. At the same time, it incorporates current market values as well as being readily adaptable to the tastes of Japanese men who are in search of diverse fashion and accommodating the movements in the Japanese fashion market. In recent years, Condé Nast Japan has enjoyed considerable success through the publication of “VOGUE HOMMES JAPAN” as an international high-fashion magazine for men. We intend to make maximum use of the experience gained in producing this title by pouring this experience into “GQ Style” to ensure the ongoing development of a stylish fashion magazine that fits perfectly into the Japanese men’s market.”

So it sounds like, for the time being, the rest of the Vogue Hommes international editions are safe!
