Melanie Fiona Has Been Struck By Cupid



Itsnotyouitsme favorite R&B darling Melanie Fiona
stopped by thee billboard studios during this week's Mashup Monday. Melanie showcased here vocal power in honor of soul icon Sam Cooke. She sang the classic "Cupid," a song that hit the charts way back in 1961!




Melanie was quoted saying..."He's one of my favorites of all time and he's a legend that I think people forget," Fiona explains about why she chose to cover Sam Cooke. Plus, she adds, "I'm a sucker for tone of voice. Sam Cooke has one of the sweetest, most melodic voices that i've ever heard."

"When I was a little girl, I remember my dad playing guitar to 'Cupid... and I would see my parents dance to this record... It reminds me of when I fell in love with music'" Fiona recalls.

Billboard calcualted the song having been in the R&B top 40 hits charted between 1957 and 1965, the year after his tragic death. Fiona first hit the Billboard charts in 2009 with her songs "Give It To Me Right" and "It Kills Me", which later earned her a Grammy nod earlier in the year.
