Magazines On The Horizon!

'According to this morning’s Wall Street Journal, there may just be a bright spot on the horizon for magazines after all.

Apparently advertisers went on a bit of a spending spree in the last quarter of 2009 and it’s happily carrying over into 2010, even in the newspaper sector which was suffering even more terribly than the glossies. And if March issues are any indication, the freefall may just be over.

Bill Wackerman, publisher of Glamour, says that they expect their numbers to be up 6-7% from that same issue last year. (March is always a major spending month for fashion and retail advertisers.) And Vogue’s Tom Florio says that the March, April, and May issues are “tracking up at this time…but it is too soon to call.”

Here’s to hoping the media and magazine bloodbath is nearing an end and that 2010 brings some better days for us all. Sounds like we’re off to a better start than 2009, which we’re pretty sure everyone would rather forget.'-Courtesy of Fashionista
